Web Design

If you're struggling with ideas for your new website design or you're not sure exactly what you want, I can arrange a free consultation and simply ask you a few questions to establish what you do and don't like in the world of web design. Once I have a good feel for what you're after, I can create a unique design template just for you and then work from there.

Alternatively, you may know exactly what you want and wish to create a sketch or even a mock-up image of your own design and just get me to implement it. Before you do this however, there are a few design considerations you need to think about...

Web Design Considerations

As a minimum you will need to think about the positioning of your corporate design (logo), your navigation links and your page content. You may also want to look at other aspects such as the use of colour, fonts, size etc.

An important consideration is whether the width of your page template should be fixed or fluid. To see the difference, take a look at natwest.com (fixed width) and amazon.co.uk (fluid width) and try changing the size of your browser window. You will notice that in a fixed template nothing changes. However, in a fluid template, the text and banner sizes adapt to fit the size of the window. This is important as users will be looking at your website with any number of different screen resolutions, and this affects the amount of available space in a maximised browser window.

A fixed width template provides a more consistent display across all monitors but, on those displaying higher resolutions, you will notice a lot of empty space at the side(s). The fluid template on the other hand will fill up most areas of the screen at any resolution, but the layout will alter at each resolution setting. Both techniques are very popular so it's really just down to personal preference.

You are welcome to take inspiration from an existing website when designing your own, as long as the overall identity of your own site is significantly different, so as to not breach any copyright restrictions. Indeed, it would be helpful to make reference to existing websites that you like (or don't like) before commencement of the web design process.

If, on the other hand, you would like to leave your logo and website design solely in the capable hands of JAH Web Development, that is absolutely no problem at all. Remember, you can have as much or as little control over the project as you wish!

Cost of Web Design

The cost of web design services is hard to estimate as it depends upon the complexity of the design and how many versions of the design template need to be created before a final design is agreed. On average however, for a small brochure site, I would expect the full web design process to total up to around a day's work (at a rate of £30 per hour).

Please don't hesitate to contact me and arrange your free consultation and estimate of cost with absolutely no obligation.
